located in town among a varied streetscape of 1920s-era homes,
this client sought to create a new kitchen and entry space while thoughtfully supporting an age-in-place strategy.

we approached the design with a neutral vernacular — careful not to disrupt the specific character of the existing craftsman-style home or its surrounding urban fabric. early in the process, it became clear that the aging existing structure could not adequately support a new, plumb kitchen. an ad-hoc 1950s addition and its adjoining deck were therefore removed, allowing the rear entry sequence to be reconsidered and clarified. in their place, a new wood-framed extension introduces vaulted ceilings and expansive glazing that captures soft morning light.

interior spaces extend this understated approach, combining clean lines, muted finishes, and textural earth tones to create a kitchen that feels both quietly refined and deeply livable.
