Located on a high bluff overlooking the Manasquan River Estuary, this project reconsiders a residence originally constructed quickly and economically in the late 2010s. The renovation addresses spatial inefficiencies by reconfiguring a segmented great room and rambling primary bedroom to better accommodate both public and private functions. Expanding glazing at the rear of the house sought to better capture the dramatic viewshed and to create a seamless indoor–outdoor relationship.
The contemporary and neutral material palette at the interior spaces reflects the project’s coastal modern concept, employing textural warmth within a restrained palette that foregrounds the shifting sapphire tones of the river.
